IXL Math

Kindergarten was super excited about their new resource for building math fact fluency! IXL Math provides a fun, colorful way to practice math. Students work to compete with their friends and uncover new prizes on their game boards as they progress through TEK aligned activities. They're sure to gain new math skills and confidence along the way!

Working with Shapes and Patterns

First grade students in Ms. Duffy's class used the computer to continue working with geometric shapes and patterns. Using a program called Kidspiration, students sorted shapes by various attributes, including the number of sides, as well as combined shapes to create patterns.

Virtual Math Manipulatives

Elementary students use math manipulatives in their classrooms to help them solve math problems. First grade teachers recently learned about an online "virtual" math manipulatives site from McGraw Hill Education, where there are grade level specific workmats and manipulatives to choose from. One first grade teacher, Mrs. Granger, says she "uses it every day!" Students enjoy using the base ten blocks, coins, counters, and hundreds chart. Along with targeting first grade Math TEKS, this resource targets the Technoloy TEK of exploring virtual environments and models to enhance learning.

Cast Your Vote

Students in the first and second grade classrooms of Mrs. Felix, Ms. Duffy, Ms. Platt, and Mrs. Granger began using their Acitvotes allowing students to contribute to a classroom discussion or lesson by responding to questions from their voting device. Students continue to learn about numbers and patterns, drawing conclusions from bar-type graphs, and taking classroom polls.

Coordinate Grid Online

Students enjoyed an online math game to practice their skills of using a coordinate grid! This activity combines their love of online gaming with math practice.

What's the Best Deal

Would you prefer to make $1.00 a day that doubles each day you work or $1.00 a day that incrementally increases by $1.00 each day that you work? Well the 5th grade math students found out which is more profitable and then used Microsoft Excel to graph their findings. Their interpretation of the data and visual representation made a strong statement!
