Writing with Storybird

Students in Mrs. Yau's third grade classroom explored a new and creative way to enjoy writing! Using a web 2.0 tool called Storybird, students used the artwork provided by various artists to illustrate their expository writing. They enjoyed publishing their writing for a larger audience and finding beautiful illustrations to fit their piece.

Spotlight Stories

Students are reading more in Mrs. Felix's second grade classroom and they are leveraging technology to capture the experience! Using the classroom document camera and headset microphone, students practice reading their short story or poem. Once complete, they listen back to determine if they like the quality, focusing on fluency, expression, and tone. If it's not up to par, they rinse and repeat. The other students in the classroom enjoy listening and reading along with their classmates' creations. Now find a cozy place and join us as we read, learn, and go places...

Alternative Energy Research

Fifth grade students studied alternative energy sources this month. They discussed what alternative energy meant and researched the different types, advantages and disadvantages, and how it's currently being used in our country. Their final product was a brochure created in Microsoft Publisher, a tool used to create print publications. Students explore various layouts, font choice, and image placement.

Research & Technology

Students in Ms. Johnston's fifth grade classroom dug right into their research project, searching for information related to fossils. Throughout their journey they discovered new information and published their information in the form of "big books" for all to read. Creating original products using a variety of resources and publishing products in different forms of media were the Tech TEKs focus.
